I’ve been playing guitar in church since I was about 10 when I started at Our Lady of Grace in Pittsburgh PA. When I started there I was at the end of a row of four guitarists and I would watch the other guitarists’ hands with amazement at how much they knew about music. When I left Our Lady of Grace I was at the front of the row of guitarists and everyone else was watching my hands.
My friend Cindy is the Music Director and Cantor at St Joan of Arc here in Los Angeles. I’ve played there on occasion with the band and choir, but often if the piano player can’t make it it’s just me on guitar and a cantor. It makes me feel really good to be able to fill up the church with my guitar and be part of the St Joan of Arc community.
